It will be possible to apply for the academic year 2020-2022 from 1 October 2019.

Apply for the International Master in Environmental Technology and Engineering by completing and submitting the online application available at the IHE Delft website. Make sure that before you start to apply online, the documents described on this page are collected.

Required documents:

  • Photocopy(ies) of academic diploma(s)(if applicable translated in English);

  • Certified academic transcript(s), (if applicable translated in English by a sworn translator);

  • Curriculum Vitae including work experience and research record (if any);

  • Letter of Motivation stating the applicant’s interest in the study programme:


The following needs to be addressed in the motivation letter:

  • Reference to issues of Environmental Technology and Engineering in your country and/or worldwide;

  • Clear description of own qualifications and experience;

  • Specific reference to the IMETE study programme and objectives;

  • Coherence of own intended career with the IMETE study programme

(preferably the motivation letter should have a maximum of 1000 words).

  • Two letters of recommendation, preferably not older than six months either by two university teachers or by one university teacher and by one employer, or by internationally recognised scientist(s). The reference letters should:

    1. Refer to academic and scientific qualifications and potential of the candidate with regard to the programme;

    2. Refer to professional qualifications and/or potential of the candidate;

    3. Refer to personal qualifications and/or potential of the candidate.

  • Results of an English language test proving you comply with the programme's language requirements. Please check our English requirements on

  • Residence certificate. In order to verify your place of residence, you need to submit a residence certificate with your application for admission.  You can use for example:

    • A residence certificate issued in accordance with your municipality normal registration rules;

    • A certificate from your place of work issued by your employer, which shows in which country you have been working.​

    • A certificate from your study or training issued by the institution in question. E.g. if you have been studying the year before the application scholarship application deadline, you may upload a transcript.

  • The residence certificate must have been issued within 12 months before the submission deadline of applying for an EMJMD student scholarship (15 January 2020)

(1) Only PDF, Word/Doc and JPEG files with a maximum file size of 2 MB per file will be accepted.
(2) In case you have not yet obtained your BSc degree, and you are in the last year of your study, please attach a statement of your university confirming that you are in the last year of your BSc study (instead of copy of your BSc diploma) and stating that you are expected to graduate before 15 August 2020. Also attach the transcript showing the subjects you followed and the marks and ECTS obtained so far.
(3) Citizens from certain countries are exempted from taking an English language test (see the admission requirements). Candidates from countries where English is the language of instruction in higher education, but which are not on the list of exempted countries, always need to upload the English language test results.

Application deadlines 
  • Submission deadline for an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship application is 15 January 2020, 23:59 CET for  Partner Country scholarships and is 15 February 2020, 23:59 CET for Programme Country scholarships. 

  •  ​Applications received after this submission deadline will be taken into consideration for academic admission, but not for Erasmus Mundus Scholarship. In those cases you need to submit your application before 15 May 2020. In case you meet the academic admission requirements, ultimate financial confirmation is needed before 1 June 2020 at the latest. However, with regard to long visa procedures for Czech Republic you are strongly advised to send your financial confirmation well in advance of that date.  If you do not need a visa for Czech Republic the deadline of application is 31 July 2020.

Cost of the programme

Tuition fee payable: € 18,000.00 total for 2-year programme.
Other costs:​​

  • Insurance: € 40 per month / € 960 total

  • Dutch residence permit: € 171

  • In addition, we estimate that a student may need on average € 1000 per month to cover costs of living and travelling between partner institutes.

Outcome of application for admission

If you have indicated in your application form that you wish to be considered for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship, you will be informed about the outcome of your application for admission and scholarship before 30th April 2019. If you meet the academic admission requirements, but you have not been selected for a fellowship, you may still attend the programme if you are able to cover the cost of the programme by other means.

If you have indicated in your application that you will cover the cost of the programme by other means, you will be informed about the outcome within 4 weeks after you have submitted your application. 

Notification of results and appeal procedure

Applicants for and Erasmus Mundus scholarship will be notified before the 30th of April 2019 regarding academic admission and scholarship attributions (see link to Erasmus Mundus scholarships). If you do not agree with the decision of the Committee on academic admission and scholarship decision and feel that the consortium/partnership has not handled your application in line with the application and selection procedures as described on the website, you have the possibility to appeal. 

You will need to do this within seven days following notification, stating in a letter addressed to the Committee why you disagree with the decision made, providing clear justifications. You need to send the letter by email to

Your appeal will then be analysed by the Selection Committee and if justified, your application will be re-evaluated. You will be informed about the final decision within 7 days.
